Growing up the fat daughter of a Nurse executive in the midwest meant a lot of trips to the mall. I loved this more than anything. I loved “helping” my mom pick out new suits and heels to wear to a business meeting; trying on the jewelry in the MayCompany accessories department; sharing a diet coke with my mom; but, most of all I loved The Original Cookie Company.
This was the pre-cursor to fancier operations like Mrs Field’s or Nestlé cookeries. My chubby little heart would squee with delight upon walking into Belden Village Mall and seeing the giant cookie cakes; cookie sandwiches made with frosting so artificial that I once lost one; found it ALMOST A YEAR LATER, (my room wasn’t cleaned as often as it is now) and it *looked exactly the same. (As chubby as my ass was, I wasn’t about to eat a year old cookie. Though, I probably thought about it.)
The cookie most frequently chosen, the one that could bring about a rapture so deep, that it was basically my first sexual experience; (Only way better, way less messy, and I actually wanted to experience it again.) this cookie was the M&M cookie. It was easily the size of Shaq’s hand and studded with beautiful peanut M&Ms.
It was the most basic sugar cookie. It wasn’t anything fancy, just a simple base with the M&Ms hand pressed into the dough. Although sex, thank the heavens got better with age (and my awesomeness-not gonna lie), this cookie, didn’t. It remained a sad relic of the past. Conjuring great memories but not great taste.
I wanted something nostalgic for this batch, but I also wanted it to taste good. Just then, it hit me. I remembered what I had in my cabinet; cinnamon M&Ms. Oh yes, you read that right, CINNAMON M&Ms. So I did what every sane person would do. I baked at 10:30 at night. I took a basic Toll House cookie recipe, used in my family for eons, and stirred in some cinnamon M&Ms. Let me just say, they didn’t suck. I will DEFINITELY want to do this again, WITH THE LIGHTS ON, and I won’t even need a third margarita.
