Today is one fuck-all depressing day in the US. Today, the Congress of our fine nation has decided that instead of being a compassionate, beautiful, open country; one of which people yearn to belong, we’d rather be seen as insensitive and miserly.
Speaker Boehner, and his band of bastards have taken it upon themselves to determine that we should not be a country based upon the Christian doctrine they want to keep paramount through so much of their recently-introduced legislation, but instead become fertile ground for such wealth and economic disparities the likes of which we have never seen.
I simply do not understand this. I was raised in parochial, religious school, and not once in all of those years, throughout my in-depth study of the Bible, did I ever read about neglecting the needy in favor of the wealthiest of the population. (specifically the New Testament, because we all know there is nary a follower of all of mandates in the Old Testament, though they do like to cherry pick specific verses to suit their ideology) In fact, I am certain it says just the opposite.
You cannot develop some laws, and create some havoc based on one part of a three-thousand year old book, and then create other laws that fly in the face of the same ancient tome. I’m in no way a nihilist, but I think that congress has simply lost their moral compass, or they’ve been hanging around with a magnet around their heads, so that their compass only points back at them.
In the narrative of our country’s history, we’ve not seen it so divided in over 15o years. Once again, it is regrettably over the exploitation of those who have less. What is a life of crushing medical debt, working 80 hours a week to not even be able to afford to properly feed yourself, let alone pull yourself up by the bootstraps that the GOP seems to think you own, if not an indentured servitude to the corporations and the rich? We aren’t selling slaves on blocks, true, but we’re preventing cancer patients from being treated. We’re creating an economy wherein the drugs that are chosen by the physician are just as heavily influenced by the drug companies incentives, as the ailment for which they’re being prescribed.
They’re fine with telling women that they don’t deserve birth control, but they’re also telling them they’ll not help to pay for a situation if any arises. They’ll sure as hell chip-in for dick-lifters, though. Because that’s a medical situation that needs to be helped, it certainly isn’t G-d’s way of telling you that you’ll go blind if you keep doing that. My PCOS and Endometriosis and severe PMDD, which are helped immensely by hormonal birth control simply isn’t a real cause for concern, or worthy of their dimes, and it shouldn’t be paid for.
In my opinion, the tea party is nothing more than a very loud group of people with huge pipe dreams and bigoted attitudes being strung along like marionettes by the corporations (which are now people, apparently) and given a voice in congress, in spite of outcries from moderates everywhere.
Congress has become the quintessential political villain. In every movie where there’s a crooked mayor or president, steepling their fingers on their desk, plotting the best way to squeeze every dime out of their constituents, I will now see Eric Cantor and Ted Cruz. (worst Canadian ever.) It’s amazing how they do all of this under the banner of saving tax dollars and helping the government run more smoothly. It’s a farce.
