Every day I am more and more astonished by how awesome people are. I know people, including myself, overuse the word “awesome”, but sometimes, it simply fits. Not all awesome is the same though, sometimes just having someone make you laugh hysterically when you need it, is perfection.
I also know that I have a tendency to become bogged down by the negative things in life, leaving little room in my head for what is funny, and what is uplifting. I am not sure if this is side effect of the fantastic genetic combo of major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder that I was blessed with, or if it’s just my fantastic personality shining through.
Fortunately, I have the sort of friends who are willing to kick my ass enough to let me know that awesome/hilarious exists, and it’s all around me.
This morning, I was feeling particularly gross because my body’s negative reaction to sugar seems to be growing worse. It seems that even cereal makes my heart pound and my stomach churn. It is more than likely the combination of dairy and the sugar in my “fruit in the center” mini-wheats, but it is still a bummer. Dry cereal just doesn’t cut it, and my favorite non-dairy cereal milk has even more sugar in it. LAME. Cereal without milk is like a Lindsay Lohan story without a prison punchline…it lacks a certain something.
Directly after the cereal debacle, my phone lights up. I had received TEN text messages from a certain Broadway Baby, congratulating me on a new contract, and sending me pictures of his pug humping his favorite teddy bear. Let me tell you, that’s quite the sight to wake up to. A pug/Disney bear porno in pictures. with captions.
Captions like
“a ‘bear hug’ means something totally different in the gay pug circle”
“completely legal in most of West Virginia”
“we all knew everyone who works at Disney is gay”
“he prefers this over your leg, what does that say about you?”
This was interspersed with really warm text messages about how I shouldn’t ever doubt my talent and that he believed in me. For actors, that’s a lot. That’s everything. 90%+ of our job is rejection. Sometimes, that’s really hard.
On a day where you’re feeling super sorry for yourself because you can’t even eat cereal? A bear-humping pug is just what you need. Ok, a bear-humping pug is always the answer.
