Squats for….just read the post.

Today is definitely one of those days I am grateful for all that I have. At 4:30 am last night, a 4 alarm fire broke out in my neighborhood, one block from where my car was parked, 2 blocks from my home. I am so glad there weren’t any firefighters injured, as the apartments above the shops on the main street in my pricier neighborhood, are often illegally sub-divided, fitting as many as 3 families into one, one bedroom apartment. 160 firefighters responding, one civilian severely injured, the fire was still blazing at 7:45 am. Terrifying.

On to happier things, like what I shoved down my gullet yesterday! TMI AHEAD!! TMI AHEAD!!! TURN BACK NOW IF YOU DON’T WISH TO READ ON!!! When I am PMSing, my body sloooooooooows down from it’s normal turtle’s pace from my ulcerative colitis, to the pace of progress in the republican primary….no……..candidate………yet….No offense, but I can’t say I’m bummed about that, as I am a pretty staunch progressive. Anyhow, my tumbly is rumbly and just not working right.

I have an AMAZING gastroenterologist who has helped me with a regimen during these times, and it seems to work. A lot of this regimen is what I eat. I eat a LOT of fruit and vegetable derived fiber, a crapton (pun intended) of water (or coffee, or tea), a good amount of fat, and a BANANAS amount of low-center, weight-bearing exercises. Squats for scat if you will.

This is why my What I Ate Wednesday (thanks, Jen!!) looks like a rabbit might have eaten it. Also, the fitnessista (Gina) and Janetha (Meals and Moves Blog) might die in a minute because I ate NUTRITIONAL YEAST without being held down, mouth pried open, drugged or sedated. I put a ton of tabasco on it, added salsa, and toasted it. I still thought it tasted like Satan’s dandruff.

breakfast was a protein shake, lunch was the nutritional yeast debacle, snacks were fruits and veggies, (great for this month’s theme for WIAW of “going green”) and dinner was 1/3 of a DELICIOUS hero made with fresh mozzarella, bruschetta, hot peppers, cherry peppers, and olives. YUM. Oh Lioni heroes, I want you to be my bff.

After dinner, I went to the gym, I got there a bit late, so I split my run between before my bodypump class and after my body pump class. I had seven miles on the schedule, and I was getting it done. I ran an average of an 8:04 pace, which felt pretty good. The bodypump class was sooooo packed I could feel the heat emanating off of its sweaty participants. Contrary to popular belief-not sexy. Gross. If I didn’t love my teacher so hard, I’d quit going. It was like being a part of an overheated cuddle party, and there was no escape.

My son’s dessert was making.me.jealous. I couldn’t have more protein for the day, and he needed more, so I made him protein pudding. His pediatrician suggested protein powder for the days after he goes on his little “hunger strikes”. Every so often, for a few days at a time, the captain will do nothing but play, play, play, and pretty much refuse to eat. You can imagine this does not bode well for his body keeping up with his growth. Normally, I would eat the pudding happily. Last night, I cried into my strawberries.

Chocolate Protein Pudding

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: 4 minutes

Keywords: blender dessert

Ingredients

  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 scoops chocolate protein powder
  • 2 tbsp sifted cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp agave nectar or stevia to taste (optional)
  • 3 tsp sifted corn starch

Instructions

put all ingredients in a blender and blend until there are NO lumps.

put into a microwave safe bowl and microwave on high for 2.5 minutes,

pull out and whisk

place back in microwave and microwave on high for one minute, pull out and whisk.

do this once more or until it is thick and rich

chill and serve.
